Detailed itinerary of the Kampala city tour

After an early morning breakfast, a safari driver from Journey Africa Wild, who is your safari guide for this tour will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Here are details of the places you will visit during the tour;

Namugongo Martyrs shrine

What better way to get an insightful story about the Uganda martyrs than visiting Namugongo Martyrs shrine? This is a memorial site where Christian converts were burnt on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga from January 1885 to January 1887. One of the highlights is the Basilica, built with 22 copper pillars representing the 22 Catholic converts who were burnt at this place. The site guide at Namugongo will narrate how and the different locations where the young men were killed.

Kabaka’s palace

The main cultural attraction in Kampala is Kabaka’s palace where the Buganda kingdom has the royal home of the King (Kabaka). The palace is well situated on a hill overlooking the city center. On a visit to the site, you will learn both about the material and the supernatural kings. This city tour that includes Kabaka’s palace gives an opportunity to visitors to also access a section with the torture chambers where people suspected of being political threats were tortured during Amin’s regime.

Kabaka’s lake is located in close proximity to the palace and is something you will not miss paying a visit.

Bahai’ Temple

Nowhere else in Africa you will find the Bahai’ Temple except in Uganda and Kampala to be specific. Apart from learning about the Bahai’ faith while at the temple, visitors enjoy its serenity. The greenery environment, location on a hill overseeing Kampala City, and the tranquility can't be imagined in the middle of the city.

Rubaga catholic cathedral and Namirembe Cathedral

If choosing to explore religious tourism in Uganda, then simply include the two cathedrals on your itinerary. These two are located on hills close to one another and they offer impressive views of Kampala city.

Standing on top of Rubaga Hill, one of the original 7 hills of Kampala, Rubaga Catholic church is the oldest Roman Catholic church in Uganda. On the other hand, Namirembe Cathedral which is also known as St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe is the oldest church in Uganda. When you arrive at each of the churches, you will have a chance to move around with a site guide and learn more about the history and their current operations.

While on a day Kampala tour, just be sure of the multiple transfers connecting to the different tourist centers. The city tour will end with a drop-off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport.
